Being an Aunt...

I get asked quite often if I want to get married and have kids. I would like to say that people only ask me this now that I am over 30, but I can remember this question being posed probably for at least the last 10-12 years. To me there really is no question....of course I would like to get married...if it was the right person...at the right time...on a boat...in the sunset...fairytale (okay maybe I could forgo the last few criteria).

Seriously, I think it is a funny question to ask a girl because I think we are wired to be mothers. Now, don't shout me down...let me explain. We all mother someone whether we have natural "kids" or not. Really it is a nurturing thing. Now, I don't really have the "gift" of hospitality and that is why if you come to my house (well, if I had a house) I won’t offer you a drink. It isn’t that I am stingy or don’t have anything to drink, it is that I don’t think about it. I say this to say that I use to think that this all meant that I was suppose to remain single forever, that I didn’t really have a nurturing bone in my body.

However in the last few years since I have had some dear friends have children, I have been encouraged. I have noticed that I love being an aunt and I do know a few things about taking care of babies….not much mind you, but enough to enjoy them and make sure they are safe and mostly happy :).

Hi Charlene, you're right, it works. This is Katie... and I just figured out how to post. Sorry about the false alarm. Anyway, I think Africa is an excellent destination and that you are going to be like a love note from God to a place that is endearingly reminicient of New Mexico, only with nicer people! :) I hope the wedding is fun. peace, k
