Got your attention...didn't I?

Beautiful, right? Looks are deceptive....this place is said to be virtually "untouched" and believe me, I now know why!
Yes, I have experienced something on this holiday that I never could have planned for or imagined. Marci and I were excited as we headed off from East London to Coffee Bay....the Coffee Shack boasted of canoe trips down the Mthatha river, cliff jumping, free surfing lessons...aah we were excited I say.
We were warned that the road to Coffee Bay was a "little rough with some potholes".....83Km of tar road that needs attention. So, we mentally prepared. I felt like a stunt driver to say the least....this is the sign that should have been posted:

Yes, there were potholes, sometimes it was like a checker board. Fortunately I am adept at swerving all over the road....I did pretty good, but unfortunately after we got to coffee bay, we realized that we did have a flat...a slashed tire...ARRGGGHH! A nice man changed it for us and we sat in our little rondaval considering the options...the weather was GROSS and the activities were non existent (they don't offer what we wanted any more), so we braved that road for...what?
I did get a cool anklet for R15...but other than that...not much. We had some good calamari, but then...that was about it. Instead of two nights we made it one and headed out the next morning at 8:30am.....it took as 2 hours to go 83K (about 40 miles)....why? well take the potholes

and add Fog and rain....and sheep and cows and people and really big trucks....it took FOREVER...
Thankfully we made it without another Flat..
When we got to Mthatha and we got a spare tire...yeah! only $110.....and then off to Port Edward.... On the way...we went to Flagstaff (that is for your Reba...I got a picture)...and let me tell you....we were definitely in Africa....it was so full of people in the street I could barely drive...
Fun times....kind of...
