Country girl goes to the City....

Well last weekend I took the Outreach Staff to the airport. They were excited because we got there in time for me to take them to NANDOS for lunch.

It is a chicken chain here that is pretty good and the only got to go once while they were here…and they got hooked. There was some tears as we said goodbye, because I guess they decided they kinda liked old “aunt Charlizzle”…my oh so “cool” nick name!

After I said my good byes, I took of to the other side of the city for some time off. I have a friend who is working for a ministry in Johannesburg, so I went to spend the weekend with her. It was a great relaxing weekend. We hung out at her flat, did some shopping, and saw the “just released” movie “The Bourne Ultimatium”. It was a good one….but I am sure you all saw in a few months ago! J

One funny thing that happened was that my friend needed some windsheild washer fluid for her car. She had checked at several stores but didn’t see any nor could she seem to find anyone who knew what she was talking about. While we were at a store that reminds me of Wal-Mart (GAME), she decided to ask again. While we were standing in the automotive section, we had two people come to try and help us, with no avail…they had no IDEA what we were asking. Then I stopped an Africanns couple and asked them to see if they knew what we should look for….

Me “do you know where we can find the solvent that you put in your car for to wash the wind shield?”

Them – They stare at me a minute

Me “You know the stuff (making motions now of windshield wippers) that squirts onto the….the wind shield?”

Them “Oh the windscreen…”

Me “Yes, ah…windscreen…”

Them “Water..”

Me, “ Just water, no soap or solvent or anything”

Them “well you could use dish soap if you want”….”or this stuff (points to what looks like RAINX in the states)”

Me, “Thank you for your help” (thinking…what in the world)

And then I saw it, right next to the other stuff…”WindScreen Cleaner”…it was a small bottle…concentrated, nothing like the big jugs of pink stuff at Wal-mart.

This is what we go through just translating South African English to American English….fun times!!!

I really enjoyed my time in the city, but as I drove around I realized that I really like living on the Farm….and I like our little town of Harrismith!

Cool! It's crazy how something so simple could have become so complicated!

By the way, now that I have windscreen stuff, my wipers have gone to crap and I need to get new ones. So even though I have cleaning stuff, it doesn't help :)
