Camping...and much more

Just got back from a camping trip. It was great. I must say that we couldn't have picked a better weekend. It cooled off this weekend...yes it is almost the end of October..sad, I know....but that is Texas. It was cool, but still warm enough on Saturday for some water fun! Deep Waters- our cell group of sorts- went camping to bond...and to bite....we did both :). Anyway, we went to Eisenhower state part on Lake Texoma. This is aparently is an artifical lake that was formed by damming up the Red River ( Tim was right...I googled it...I hate when he is right). It was beautiful though! We had a great campsite right near the end of a penninsula and it dropped down on rocks to the water below.....wow!

So, we pitched our tents on Friday and then sat around and read Blue like Jazz around the camp fire...oh did I mention there was a burn ban...so no wood fires (well, we had a small one...with lots of charcoal too...promise). Then the rest of the group showed up and we roasted marshmallows and had SMOREs! YUM! We missed not having a guitar player in the group...we have decided one must be recruited!

On Saturday, we awoke early to explore before heading to the marina to get our PONTOON BOAT! We did a litte rock climb...well, walking. It was a bit of climbing, but just really beautiful. I really love big boulders and rocks on the water with the wind blowing...I don't know what it is with me, but it just speaks of God's greatness! After exploring, we headed to the marina and found out that it was on ly $25 to rent a tube to play on behind the boat...or $40 to buy said tube...so, I am now the proud owner of a tube complete with ropes....maybe, I will get a motor boat for Christmas (wink, wink...:)). So, we took off and had great fun with the boat and the tube. The picture on the left is Tim and Luke reenacting Titanic (but we didn't sink). Then we headed to North Island....a little deserted island in the middle of the lake... well, not really deserted, but not inhabited either. It took a while to get there, but it was a great ride. We ate lunch on the island, took a few pictures and headed back to the marina. We pulled Luke behind us most of the way....and it was fun trying to toss him off. Luke is a pretty stuborn fella, so it wasn't easy to toss him from the tube...he even held as his trunks came all the way down and were being held on by his toe....then he debated whether to let them just fall or to let go of the tube....THANKFULLY for us all...he let go of the tube. Yikes..that could have been scary! The picture on the right is me, doing some tricks in the tube (not much though becuase we weren't going very fast).

That evening, we took some more pictures, made a great stew in tin foil, played cards, and got yelled at by the park authority for having a fire (it was getting cold and some of us decided to risk it). Thankfully he did not give us a ticket...but it was sad to get caught, none the less.

This morning we were awoken by the sounds of Luke's car alarm...arrggh, but we tore down camp and headed to church...all dirty and smelling of smoke..we fit it quite nicely :).

One of the things we talked about were top 10 lists...God had one (10 commandments)...Dave Letterman has one every night...so I thought I would have one.

This picture on the left is Nathan with my trekking poles....I just thought the negative looked pretty good!.

The top 10 things that I learned....
10. Lake Texoma is man made.
9. Mosquitos do not die after they bite you (oops).
8. Pontoon boats don't go very fast
7. If you don't use flash lights, you can see better in the dark
6. Charcoal doesn't make a good fire to keep you warm.
5. I don't particularly like sleeping on the ground.
4. You can burn in October...
3.Wind is still the most amazing stuff in the world.
2. I like to wash my hair!
1. I am 30 years old...not 19, not 21, not even 24....and the next time I camp I should consider this.
