Back Porch and Deep Waters

I have sat down several times over the last few days to update this blog with what is going on with me, but I just haven't known where to start. My tendancy is to just give you a list of what my life is like right now, but that is so boring!!

So, I think I will take separate blogs to tell you about different aspects of my life....today I want to tell you about BACK PORCH and Deep Waters.

BACK PORCH is, well...a church in my church. It is hard to explain, it is an outreach and a bible study that began several years ago (thanks to Dave Hall and Luke) on the "Back Porch" of our church. It has morphed over the years and I just got involved a few months ago. Basically we have a core leadership of about 8 folks and then we are all learning out to minister....how to love others different from us, how to reach out, how to offer prayer, healing, prophecy...and of course JESUS!!! I love this because every week is different...for example tonight:

We had a pastor come and tell us his testimony and we prophesied over him and encouraged him and are planning to serve him in the next few weeks. The interesting twist was that we had a few "non believers or at least unchurched" folks(I think that is an accurate description, but I am not sure) visit with us and we just kept proceeding as usual. That always gets the "people pleaser" in me, but it turned out really well. I think that all of them that could receive were ministered too and I hope that they will be back. We then prayed for some of them (after they left) and debriefed, gave testimonies and encouraged each other.

I think that we are really learning what it means to be a church...a small church..within a church. Hmmm...sounds like the New Testament to me!

Deep Waters is a bible study for the leadership of the group above. It is a time when we learn more about the word and minister to each other. It has been great so far. I really love the girls that I am mentoring and I think that God is really using me in their lives....he definitely is using them in mine.
