What is it like to live in Africa?

There are so many things about living in South Africa that are much like home, and we are thankful for that. However, it is easy to know that we are not in America because-
  • The bugs are so big (especially the bees and houseflies) that sometimes it sounds like a plane or helicopter is buzzing around your head or headed for you. And there is this very ugly black worm that I think is poisonious...they like to show up in my room.
  • TV-We have TV but it is soo different. There are two "movie channels" not to be confused with HBO or Showtime, however. The funniest thing to me is that between TV shows they play music videos.
  • This is also the only place I have ever had a designated "bug killer" during movies to get the moths, flies, and mosquitos off of the screen.
  • Rainy Season- now I am not from Seattle, so I can definitely say that I have never lived anywhere like this climate wise. It can be HOT during the day and absolutely clear and then out of nowhere there is POURING RAIN, hail, thunder, and lightening.(as an aside if you look at the picture of my house on the last post...that long black poll is a lightening rod). It is common for the power to go out, every building to leak and the pathway to my house to turn into a river! (I sure do wish I had packed a rain coat!)
Though these and many other things are "different" from home, I must say I am enjoying it immensely....I mean when have I ever lived in a place that I thought was perfect.

For those of you in Texas, you may be screaming..."HERE" but the truth is, I didn't think it was very scenic and the summers are just a tad too hot for me. All is all, South Africa is just perfect for this time of my life.

Yeah! I get to make the first comment!

OK I take it back about not roughing it... sort of. Black poisonous worms don't sound very good!
